I would wake up to the noise of this Hovercraft, whilst holidaying at my aunts house half a mile up the road. I found it so exciting. We had so many happy times in Southsea. Alas, time ticks on, and all those family members are no longer here. Enjoy your family whilst it lasts. X
Really stoked at YT's algorithms for reminding me of this, some 14 years after it was uploaded.
Nalcom footage looks amazing.
If you remember, what specific Eastman Kodak Ektachrome high speed video news film did you shoot with here?
7250, although Kodachrome 40 was used for the town & on the train shots. A Krasnogorsk was also used for town/train scenes, as It attracted less attention than the Arriflex would have done.
@@gazellefilms Thanks. I just shot some 7250 myself and look forward to getting it developed soon. Another spool just developed was mostly a dud, but we'll see.
I was born in hoo 1956 and spent by time fishing and other country persutes it has changed so much not for the good
Enjoyed watching this, filmed just 4 years after i was born
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
Been living in Hoo since about 1980. Becoming more like a small town but with sadly no infrastructure to cope. Funny seeing my house though
The passing submarine was HMS Finwhale a Porpoise Class patrol submarine.
If you can remember, what color film stock did you shoot with?
Kodak Vision 5201.
@@gazellefilms That is a solid Vision 2 film stock, used for the likes of THERE WILL BE BLOOD, SAMSARA, the musical HAIRSPRAY and THE MASTER in 70mm, at best, I have some in 16mm and cannot wait to try it out myself.
Hello, great item you made. Would you happen to have a circuit diagram, just to help me understand how to 'TAP' off the 3.6v and then TAP off the 7.2v? Thank you
Thanks for showing the need for close observation, patience, and enjoying the process.
It's changed so much since then. Fields are gradually going with more and more houses, Getting on and off the peninsula is a nightmare now. Hard to get a doctors appointment. Oh how back then things must have been so different and better. I was still a kid back then.
Could see how things were going, which is why this film was made.
I have a two year old collie and she will only do away not comebye how can I change this ?
Ted hope was my great uncle, a truly lovely man x
Early training with a tiny round pen, sheep inside, dog outside, is a brilliant idea,. Was that common practice, do you happen to know? This is the first time I've seen it, but it makes so much sense it seems almost obvious in retrospect.
Hi, did you think that the 100D was correctly exposed by the camera? It reads it as 100ASA? Thanks
I can't remember now what happened, was long time ago. But checking the specs of this camera online (I no longer have the camera). It seems that It should be able to read 100 ASA.
@@gazellefilms l understand, thanks for your reply!
Inferno!!!!!!!!!!
And I used to live in one of the cottages at 28.44. And seen In one of the episodes of it.
I have just got this camera and was looking for test footage- nice to see shots of Folkestone where I’m living!
Hope all is good with you, keep filming
Thanks Rob, not always filming what I'd like to, but somethings better than nothing. Hope you're keeping well.
wonderful way to show how life was, for the shepherd, to those who have no idea of what they did or lived. A documentary that should stay on RUclips for those who do not know can.
Hasn't changed in 40 plus years, still the dump I remember
This is so amazing to see
@Gazelle Films: Thanks for this. We (the Stephenson family) used to live in Old Bolingbroke in the 1960s-80s -- opposite the Wesleyan Chapel -- and Ivy Chester (see 1 min 20 secs in) was our neighbour on Chapel Lane. I didn't realise she had a connection with Hareby, but I assume it's the same person, as Hareby is less than a mile away and the age shown on the cross is about right.
We were neighbours to Ivy on the other side, Bungalow called Tuscan. I assume you lived in the end terraced house next to Ivy. The car repair man who lived there must have moved in after you. All I can say is there was much trouble, with poor Ivy being on the receiving end. The village was very picturesque with it's castle & history. Unfortunately there were certain individuals who seemed hell bent to exploit it for their own ends. There was a family there with five feral kids, who caused nothing but trouble. After six years we moved out, and were glad to be gone.
@@gazellefilms Amazing. I remember Tuscan - it was opposite the field behind the phonebox. I can remember a lady called Nora living in one of the bungalows near yours or maybe even in it. No, we didn't live in the old (Primitive) chapel adjoining Ivy's house. To my knowledge there was no-one living in it when we were there, I think it was just used (by Ivy?) for storage. We lived at Chapel View, opposite the newer (Wesleyan) chapel but were Ivy's immediate neighbours then. Previously we'd lived on Hagnaby Road. When Dad bought Chapel View it was a row of three small cottages which he knocked into one. It had an asbestos garage + large-ish garden next to it and beyond the hedge was Ivy's garden. While we were there, the Edges built their large house in the paddock opposite us. During the 1980s Mum & Dad sold Chapel View and the new owners - or possibly the ones after them - split the cottage into three again and added a fourth cottage onto the right-hand end + an extension at right angles to it, behind it. 'Chapel View' is now the name of just one of these four cottages. Later still someone built that (rather hideous) 'Meadowsweet Barn' holiday home thing on the end of what had been our garden. Also there were no houses in the field running off Moat Lane behind our garden -- it was just an open field. So now it all looks a bit cramped - like Manhattan. Dad was a teacher at the Franklin School in Spilsby and we had a Welsh collie dog called Tasha. Dad reckoned he knew about two-thirds of the adults in the village - either directly, or through their kids, many of whom he taught. There was a strong sense of community in the village and Dad was very happy there, but Mum was always a town girl, and after years of nagging him to move, he finally caved in and they moved to Skegness. They probably moved out before the old chapel was converted into a house and the 'problem' family and car repair business moved in. What's your surname, then? We knew Ivy very well. She often called in for a chat. I nearly fell off my seat when I saw her grave in your clip - but wondered why she was buried at Hareby and not in Old Bolingbroke. Did she or the Pensons come from Hareby originally?
thank you!
You're welcome!
Haunting 👍🏻.
This is well done, looks older than '98 the way you filmed this, could be the 1960's...
Was filmed with old 1970's movie camera.
Love the old train!! Good show!!
Thank you, much appreciated.
Great film. Interesting soundtrack.....
Thank you
fabulous, thank you…
Great video about this topic. What an interesting story
Thank You Much Appreciated.
So thankful for the recording of this fine old shepherd. I am sad that this seems to be all there is left of him. I would too that I could buy these recording in a DVD format. Would somewhere there was a biography of him. He and Pope Robertson's out print book: Anyone Can Do It , are the best I have found. Ted Hope I can tell was the best of the best.
This was put out on dvd around 15 years ago. Before that on vhs tape. A remaster for dvd is in the pipeline. Thank you for your positive comments, much appreciated.
You're a really useful railway.
What’s the name of the song?
There is no song, the title of the music I can't remember.
Just bought a 410 to play with our new supplies of Kodak Super 8 films....
Really pleased to come across these videos. Ted was my Great Uncle but I only met him twice in the 1960s when he was at a sheep dog trial at Stanmer Park , Brighton and once at his home in Kent. It is very rewarding in exploring family history to have this video image of a relative born in 1911.
brilliant lost count how manytimes iv watched this iv followed ted advice and looking back how well jed has come on big thank you xx
Very good to hear, thank you !
I used this hovercraft twice a week for months over the summer of 86. Loved it. Rode the new one last year.😊
Allhallows on Sea has definitely changed with the caravan park now a huge success with many partnerships such as a Burger King, Costa, swimming pools, restaurants and so much more. If only it was like this around that time

No but planning to make a video on the Surfers at Folkestone.
Thank you for posting it!
Good advice 'bringing a puppy to work'. They can learn quite a lot from other dogs.
What a cute video
Never thought of it that way. But yes, could be a fitting description for it.
@@gazellefilms i think the music is warm and friendly
brilliant video
This is actually quite interesting! I suspect the film of the present line isn't recent
Well I see 53 people have thumbed it up, so I suppose it has provided a certain level of interest. As stated In the description, the film was shot over twenty years ago. In fact filming was started around 1995.
I remember being in a passenger train on this line!
The rail shots are a valuable record of the immediate post-provatisation era, and very valuable for the modeller. Thank you.
👍🏼
I am so pleased this is still posted. Just found my old Chinon 200/12 XL and have been repairing it. Great to see some test footage from someone. Love the sound - it gives me ideas since I live near a harbor here in California.
